FDNY Pumpers awarded to KME

What happened to the additional photos R1SmokeEater posted. I do not see them anymore. Did someone remove them or is just me?

The first KME FDNY truck will be at the Long Island Fire and Rescue show this weekend. It should arrive early Friday. After reading some of the posts on these KME trucks I feel the need to explain a couple things. First, the Seagraves trucks DID NOT meet the FDNY spec, but were excepted anyway. Second and most important, the spec those trucks are built to is FDNY's spec, not Seagraves or anyone else. For example, KME hasn't make split cabs in years, but that is what FDNY wants. So that's what KME made for them. Two identical cabs were made at first and one was crash tested to prove the design. KME and FDNY have so far had a great relationship and the whole process has gone smoothly. The folks at KME are well aware of some of the sentiments posted on this blog. Some of you will be eating some serious crow. Furthermore, FDNY would do well to have KME aerials in their houses.

Will the "serious crow" be flying at the show this weekend ? & will he be airborne longer than the 13 minutes you have spent on line  here since Dec 2013 when you registered  ;) ?  .....  Lets hope all works out all around .

Geeezzz....put the pompoms away, they dont' need a cheer leader.  KME has earned every bit of it's reputation for spotty reliability.  If they make a great product that holds up in NYC, TERRRIFIC!  We can all come online and blog about how great they are so they feel better....until then, they're guilty until proven innocent.

Unless you have better information to share about them and more pics.

I just have to ask, how long have you worked for KME?

Played with a KME 75ft aerial back in Texas around 2002. KME rep was delivering it to another department and stopped by our house to talk business with our Assistant Chief. I asked if I could play with his toy and he said OK.
Raised the aerial out of the bed....not impressive, but not bad. Then rotated the ladder.....again, not impressive, but not bad. Finally extended the aerial to full height...again not bad.
Bedded the ladder for my next test.
From a bedded position I raised, rotated and extended the aerial in one operation....VERY, VERY SLOW !!!!
THe KME rep, after observing what I had done, told me I was not following proper procedure and probably didn't really know what I was doing on the turntable since the ladder (and chauffeur) was supposed to perform only one function at a time.
That ended any interest I had in KME.

"First, the Seagraves trucks DID NOT meet the FDNY spec, but were excepted anyway".
Does this mean the Seagrave (not Seagraves) bid was ACCEPTED even though they did not meet the specs? Or does it mean there were EXCEPTIONS to the specs?

I certainly agree with your statements but what you expect from a KME employee?  They certainly can't be any better than the equipment they sell.  He doesn't even know the correct name for his competitors and continues to give out inaccurate or incomplete information.  My bet is they were EXCEPTIONS to the spec in the Seagrave bid that FDNY accepted!

Engine 56 is the CTS rig number that was put on the first of the raised roof seagraves, I thought it was done for a movie and just left on there.

Can tell you that Engine 56 aka CTS pumper (Seagrave Raised roof) was at the Rock today.

Will be at the Long Island show, so will work on some extra photos if no one beats me to it.

Thought it was 57  And the 56 is not centered on the door and it looks like a lot more white on the top above the red. To me at least

I noticed that the # wasn't centered either. Also, I wonder what the big metal box behind the cab might be for it kinda sticks out. Maybe just storage.

They couldn't center the "56"; the door handle would be in the way.  As for the big metal box . . . spare parts container for the KME mechanics?  8) ::) 8)
