FDNY Pumpers awarded to KME

Our ferrera is not doing well at all our suspension has really gotten worse it sways side to side when driving straight down the street. The suspension clunks and bangs when going over bumps or potholes in the street. There is a whole list of other problems with ours. And I'm sure with all the other ones also. No pilot program or test period was done on these. In my opinion epic failure

If that's the case they better start doing some overhaul and repowering of some of the seagraves getting replaced because it sounds like they will be seeing some long service as spares in the future if there's all these problems, I imagine Ferrara is seeing there profit margins getting smaller and smaller which may explain the salesmen getting worse, hopefully these issues will shake out, but swaying side to side sounds like design issues or not strong enough suspension or lack of sway bars, either way not something that gets fixed over night, anytime you spend this kind of money there should be some kind of pilot program, after all if it was your money you would have one right??

Not connected, but Boston L-18 with a 2013 KME  109' apparatus blew their transmission
Just saying, it all fails, no shops right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This happened to a lot of our most recent Seagrave engines......lots of blown trans.  93, 35 to name a few.

I heard threw the grape fine from someone who was out at KME doing an inspection for there new engine. Said that they are currently building two fdny cabs according to a KME employee. One is for the demo engine that will go to fdny for inspection. The other is being made for crash testing which I here is required by the fdny for a new design. He did not see them as the fdny stuff is in a separate building than most of the other builds, seems to be TOP SECRET.. I tell ya if they run into some issues with crash testing and inspections with the fdny these engines might be backed up for quite a while. For the brothers riding these 10 + year old rigs with massive amounts of hours and miles on them I sure hope it doesn't happen because before you know it the rigs won't be able to keep up and running safely or be reliable

I heard bascily the same thing only that kme will build 2 rigs as demo unit and the shop are going to give them to the two worst companys.  One being brooklyn and the other the bronx. im not saying the company numbers but they are known to beat the hell out the rigs.  the city DOES NOT WANT THESE RIGS.  they are hoping these company will beat the shit out of them and refuse the order do to the rigs falling apart.  Say what you want about seagrave but they are still running front line service 10 to 15 years later in some case.  Dont know much about ferrara other then they are lined up around the shops most times.

They should of done that with the ferreras we've pretty much beaten the shit outta ours no way this is lasting the  10 years  At least they are getting smarter with these new manufacturers and having a pilot program with these guess they learned a lot from the ferrera ladders and rescues

If they are just working on constructing the cabs I would have to think it won't be any time soon but who knows where they are at exactly with construction. If they have to do the crash test first before they do there inspection it might be a real long time if stuff has to be changed

While 54 and 8 are good candidates the would not be able to partake because they are high pressure pumpers that have the 3rd stage

If they were able, a good cross-section of companies would be good.  Companies that top 5,000 runs like E75 or E290.  Some companies in Manhattan that run as much as E54 and E8 and companies that run the highways a lot too would be good like E276 or E83.

The investment in apparatus the FDNY makes deserves a thorough field test.  Sadly, they seem to leave us ACTUAL field units to do the testing.

An often not talked about company is E14 down in the Flatiron district, they do in the mid 4000s for runs every year, and take in 10-75s in lower midtown and the lower east side and down in the villages, all of which can be hotbeds of fire activity, and 14 gets a look in on many occasion, and on a side note, what a beautiful firehouse it is too. It was featured in the book 'my turn on the fire lines', with stories from the house in the 60s and 70s i think, a proud company.

Here are pics of the 2nd KME Cab in build. 1st Cab had been sent for crash testing

http://www.emtbravo.net/index.php/topic/49773-spy-shots-fdny-kme-engine-cab/

these kmes are supposed to be pretty much identical to the 2008 and newer seagrave engines with minor differences
Considering FDNY sent them a Seagrave to look over after they won the contract I would kind of expect their "New" design to look like a Seagrave!  I'm not sure how they could do this legally or ethically to a competitor of the company who built the original apparatus.
