FDNY Pumpers awarded to KME

Nevermind, I took another look at the pic and saw that its at the fire convention at the stadium.

Man, those off centered company #s are bothering me more than they should lol  ;D

A question was asked earlier about acceptance of these rigs.  Have they been tested out against the specifications for Hill climb etc.  Also at one point it was said that the 1st engine would be in service for a while before anymore produced to prove the design but it now appears that production is going to go ahead on all of them.  Obviously there are rigs they need to be replaced ASAP but with a totally new manufacturer like this it certainly would be prudent to prove out the design before having a boatload of them.

No, they're all in production, one after another.  They'll start delivery upon completion.  Note: No one has begun training on them.  When that happens, the first delivery is about a month away.

The chassis (as was asked by someone previously) is a modified Severe Service chassis.  It is because of this that we hope the durability is better than Ferrara.  This is a chassis that has been produced for several years.  While it was modified a bit to satisfy our spec, hopefully the kinks are well worked out of the basic design.  Remember, the Ferrara was a new design, bumper to bumper.......thus one reason they're unreliable peices of shyte.

I finally got to see the new KME (KP14001) today at The Shops side by side with one of the new Seagraves (SP14005). They almost look like twins.

The front bumpers are different in that the air horn on the KME is inside the recess for the front discharge.

I like the stripes and the "FDNY" on the Seagrave, you can barely see the FDNY on the KME, especially with CTS being the size it is. I know it's simply cosmetic and what really matters is how the truck performs and holds up over time. Never worked on a KME or know anyone who has so thats my $0.02

It appears on the officer side pump panel there is a stortz adapter on the intake that says for drafting only, I've seen it this way on seagraves as well. I thought that the drafting only side of the officer side intake could only be used for drafting and if it was a positive water source ( hydrant, inline pumping) that it had to use the other side of that the intake. The only hose FDNY uses with storz connections is the 6" LDH carried by the hose wagons and satellites. I would think that everytime you used the intake you would have to remove the adapter to hook up hard suction ? Could someone clarify how that intake works for me ? I'm also guessing the wheel in between the two is a valve to open / close the extra intake ?

Well I guess what I had said previously is a fact....E 73  ( SP 14006  at the seagrave plant ) and E 274 ( SP 14007 at the fire convention ) new 2014 Seagrave ipumpers are complete and numbered. There is also another new 2014 Seagrave ( SP 14005 ) at the FDNY shops  that for some reason was delivered and not munbered....

The 2nd 2014 KME rig ( KP 14002) is also completed and lettered for E 153 in Staten Island...The next two company's that should get the KMEs are E 97 and then E 251....we shall see

.The last company according to the list to get the 2014 Seagrave should be E 89... It looks like they went out of rotation with the Reg#s since E 274s rig is SP 14007 and they were third on the list.

E-153's KME was at FDIC in Indy last week......You will not see the first KME engines on the street until the summer at the earliest

Companies will be sent to The Rock for a few consecutive Saturdays to familiarize themselves with the new rigs.  Once a company starts going, they're 3 or 4 weeks from taking delivery.  This process should start next month at some point with rigs going in service in June.
