FDNY Pumpers awarded to KME

After E 157.the next three S.I. company's scheduled for the new KMEs are. In the order of E 162---- E 156 and -E 158

A lot of fire activity in the City recently.  I have not heard of any negative comments regarding the KME's, so I assume they are holding there own so far?

I've been thinking the same thing which is certainly good news for everyone (except possibly Seagrave).  Certainly a different scenario than that for the Ferrara RMs!

I would have to definitely agree with you Bulldog.....There have been some issues with the KMEs but nothing like the problems with the Ferrara rear mounts......The correction being done now are the wiper wiring harnesses...When the radios were installed they were pinching the wires....The guy from KME Is going to all the field units to move the harnesses over.

That's when some of the Sl  engines  were 750  btc  also.
Do the new kme  have the forestry reels?

l see it on the Ferraras  80, 82.  So l quess the new units also still have em.

l realize now you must be referring to the new KME  e 158  &  E 162 as having the reels  but  showing  the old  Seagraves.

I took pics of E 162 yesterday.....Two things all the KMEs are 500 gal booster tanks....There are no 750s on the selected few SO engines....Also there is no reel on the top of the rigs behind the cabs...The entire fleet of 91 PUMPERS are all 2000/500.

That picture of the rear mount is not a forestry reel, it is an extension cord reel. As far as the forestry reels on the engines, I do not think the manufacturer ever installed one of those reels, the shop or the company's them selves installed them after receiving the rig. It is probaly one of those things that gets passed from rig to rig

There is no way the company did it on there own.....The water piping has to be done to accommodate that reel

Unless they pull off what they need and break it. No plumbing required.

If forestry hose is kept in reels it's only for convenience the only way to use it on a reel would be if it all was taken off each time before being charged.  Just like 1 3/4" etc. forestry hose is jacketed hose and cannot be charged while it's on the reel.  It's much quicker to deploy this way it when you have pulled off enough to just break a coupling and connected to the pump panel!  It's extremely lightweight and their normal size is only 1", many times as he packed into backpacks to be carried into the field!

The top photo of E162 was taken by me a couple of years ago at a large S.I. brush fire and I asked E162 ECC about it. It was done in-house by the company and forestry hose was only kept on the reel where they can take off what they needed. The reason I asked is that there doesn't seem to be enough room on the top deck of the KME for a reel. ;)
